Saturday morning- Golden
beaches of Rimini and Zumba in the village
Lazy morning and then with a
warm day forecast of to Rimini which is a seaside port/resort north east of
Mondavio about an hour away. Rimini has
miles of sandy beaches (sand quality like Sandringham) with thousands of
umbrellas and lounges to sit on at a cost.
There is also a great free beach at the northern end of the main beach
near the fishing port. Great sand,
toilet/change rooms and beach showers. Needless to say thats where we were. Lots of lifesaver towers with row boats as
the rescue vehicles (see photo). Had a great afternoon and even Robyn got wet
as it was 32C.
Back home to get ready for
the village Zumba party. The whole
square (1 basketball court in size) was set up for the Italian Zumba
show/spectacular. Due to start at 9 it
actually started at 10. Roberto and his
bar, il Duca, were major sponsors. Bit
of a drama with the beer keg but after a couple of phone calls-success. See
photos of Roberto and Pamelia and mate working the bar. There was at least two
hundred girls ‘zumbaring’ but the boys just stood around and ‘watched’. It was hard to get a decent photo of all of
them but it was like a swarm of insects all moving in time. Obviously the
performers were known to the crowd. All round a lot of fun. We left by 11 but it went on until early
morning. This morning the square is back
to normal and I enjoyed my early morning expresso (still 90c) ‘reading’ the
paper. By the way we do get BBC and
Europe’s CNN on cable at the apartment so we can keep up with news. The local news is either earthquakes, Europe
2012 international football tournament (starts in a week) or Italian match
fixing (no real surprise there).
Off to Fabriano this
afternoon to pick up Julie Faulkner who is staying with us for a few days
before going home via Cinque Terre and Milan.
