Medoc, Margaux, go-carts and superb steak!

Sunday        Medoc and Margaux

Bright sunny morning but still coolish. Today we are off up the left side of Bordeaux-appellations of Medoc, Haute Medoc and Margaux.

First unplanned stop was at the local model motorised go-cart competition in the middle of nowhere.  We were certainly the only Aussies that called in.

As luck would have it we arrived at the Tourist Info Office to find it closed but a notice telling us that there was a tour/tasting at a 4th growth grand cru winery at 11am.  We joined another couple from Russia for a two hour tor/seminar/tasting with Ulrich who had perfect English and a wicked sense of humour. The winery was Chateau Prieure-Lichine which is now owned by the Ballande Group which as a matter of interest also owns Tisdall Winery near Echuca. Lots of fun and in the end Ulrich decided that both us and the Russian couple had travelled far enough to have free tasting session.

We then travelled up to Pauillac and then after lunch went across the Gironde on a car ferry from Lamarque to Blaye and then back to St Emilon.

Whilst getting ready to go out but waited until after 8pm to watch the French election results. French law does not allow any results to be released until after the last poll closes. Smaller polling booths close at 6pm but Paris doesn’t close until 8.  It is now 8.05pm and the result is already showing that Sarkozy has lost and Hollande (52%) has won.

Funny night at Amelia Canta-a local basic cafe in St Emilon.  Best steak in Europe and very funny watching local group trying to fly paper planes from top of building.

This ferry was ready for anything!!
